You already have a PC or Mac on your chart table ? How about accessing your computer while being outside at the helm ? Or simply prepare next navigation sitting quietly in the sun in the cockpit? This is very easy with the iPad and this is no gadget: the solution has even been adopted by many racers !
1. Download the VNC Lite application on the iPad. This app enables to create a virtual network between the Mac and the iPad.
2. Create a wireless network between your Mac and the iPad.
3. Allow screen sharing on your Mac (System Preferences> Sharing). You will have to create a password.
4. Connect the iPad via WiFi to your Mac and launch VNC Lite, then enter the connection parameters: IP address of your Mac and the password created earlier.
That's it: you see the screen of your Mac on your iPad!
The beauty of this : you do not need to buy any navigational application for iPad, you can just use the one which is on your Mac!
Here is for example the MacENC application for Mac being displayed on the screen of the iPad
The process is almost identical, but there is an additional step : you must first install a small software on the PC to give it the ability to accept VNC connections.
The process is explained in our detailed tutorial
