The GNS 3000 is a Bluetooth GPS receiver that brings GPS positioning to certain devices that don't have it, or replaces the internal GPS when it exists, in order to gain battery autonomy.
Note: as a reminder, GPS is the generic name for satellite systems that enable a receiving device to be precisely geolocated at any point on the globe, including in the middle of the oceans, via signals from different satellite constellations. Today, GPS chips can be found in many nomadic devices, but some don't have them at all, in particular all wi-fi iPads, even the most recent ones. The GNS3000 brings satellite positioning to these devices, making them usable for sea, air or land navigation.
The GNS3000 is compatible with the GPS (American), GLONASS (Russian) and GALILEO (European) networks, the latter currently being the most accurate.
Lightweight and small in size, it nevertheless delivers 99 channels of high performance, with accuracy often below 2m thanks to Galileo.
Its internal antenna has been improved over previous generations, with greatly enhanced sensitivity to "pick up" the satellite signal even in poor reception conditions (particularly in towns, hills, forests, etc.).
Thanks to Bluetooth, it can be carried in a pocket or placed at a distance (up to 5-10m depending on obstacles), while sending the GPS position. This makes it ideal for use with a digital tablet, well protected in a closed waterproof case.
It is designed to run on its internal battery (10h autonomy). It can also be left permanently plugged in if you're worried about running out of battery power during continuous use (in which case, it's advisable to let it discharge from time to time)
The GNS3000 is Apple-certified for iPad, iPhone and iPodTouch. It is also compatible with Android devices and PC/Mac* with Bluetooth (SPP profile).
In this new version, up to 5 Apple, Android or PC/Mac devices can be connected simultaneously. What's more, its Bluetooth connectivity now enables any updates to be loaded.
As soon as it is connected, the GNS3000 replaces the device's internal locator.
It is therefore compatible with all applications using"location-based services", including land, sea and air navigation and performance tracking applications.
The GNS3000 features a microSD card port for continuous data logging. The manufacturer claims up to 7 years logging on a 32GB card (not supplied).
* Use of this device with a PC, and even more so with a Mac, is reserved for experienced users. Several customers have reported Bluetooth connection difficulties with recent versions of MacOS, which require a specific code to be entered during Bluetooth pairing.
