Description
The YDWN-02 Multiplexer is a very compact Wi-Fi router for transmitting data from the sensors and instruments on your boat to mobile devices (tablets, smartphones, computers). This data can then be displayed in a majority of NMEA-compatible applications such as Weather4D Routing & Navigation, SailGrib, iNavX, iSailor, etc.
A multiplexer and bidirectional router
The unit is equipped with two NMEA0183 input/output ports with adjustable data rates. It is ideally suited to simple instrumentation, such as the connection of a navigation unit to an AIS transmitter or transponder operating at different data rates.
Received NMEA data can be transmitted over Wi-Fi by three independent, configurable data servers, operating in either transmit, receive or bidirectional mode. NMEA data is sent over Wi-Fi in the NMEA0183 format supported by most navigation applications. Compatible applications can send their own data to the router, enabling you to control an autopilot using the same NMEA protocol.
Integrated Wi-Fi access point
The router creates its own Wi-Fi network ( access point mode, by default), with a range of around 30 meters in open space, but it can also be connected to a Wi-Fi network already installed on board ( client mode). For security, the Wi-Fi access point name (SSID) can be modified, as can the connection password.
Simplified configuration
The YDWN-02, like all the brand's other devices, is equipped with an integrated web server, making it easy to configure and update its firmware from any web browser on a computer or mobile Wi-Fi device. At its simplest, you use the first server activated by default, select the transmission protocol (TCP or UDP) and the transmission direction, and set the NMEA0183 port baud rate (4800, 38400 bps, or more as required). All that's left to do is connect the instruments.
Advanced functions
The configuration interface includes a routing table for filtering the transmission of data received by each server to the various ports, as well as redirections between ports. This makes it possible to fine-tune the load of data flows to certain older instruments with limited reception capacity, and thus avoid memory saturation.
Configurable instrument web pages
The web interface also includes four configurable instrument pages, enabling data to be viewed in real time using a web browser on a mobile device. In this way, for example, you can turn your smartphone into an instrument repeater. It also displays the flow of NMEA sentences.
