The YDWN-02 Mux is a very compact Wi-Fi router that allows you to transmit data from the sensors and instruments on your boat to mobile devices (tablets, smartphones, laptop, computers). This data can be displayed in a majority of NMEA compatible applications such as Weather4D Routing & Navigation, SailGrib, iNavX, iSailor, etc.
The unit is provided with two NMEA0183 input/output ports with adjustable flow rates. It is perfectly suited for simple instrumentation, such as connecting a navigation system and in addition an AIS receiver or transponder that operate at different flow rates.
Received NMEA data can be transmitted over Wi-Fi by three independent configurable data servers, operating either in transmit, receive, or bidirectional mode. NMEA data is sent over Wi-Fi in the NMEA0183 format supported by the majority of navigation applications. Compatible applications can send their own data to the router, allowing control of an autopilot using the same NMEA protocol.
The device creates its own Wi-Fi network (this is the access point mode, by default), with a range of about 30 meters in open space, but it can also be connected to a Wi-Fi network already installed on board (in client mode). For security reasons the name of the Wi-Fi access point (SSID) can be changed, as well as the connection password.
The YDWN-02, as all other devices of the brand, is provided with an integrated web server, which facilitates the setting and possible update of its firmware from any web browser on a computer or a mobile device over Wi-Fi. The simplest way is to use the first server activated by default, choose the transmission protocol (TCP or UDP), and the transmission direction, set the NMEA0183 port rate (4800, 38400 bps, or more as required). All that remains is to connect the instruments.
In the configuration interface, a routing table is used to filter the transmission of data received by each server to the different ports as well as redirections between ports. This allows, if needed, to fine-tune the load of data flows to some older instruments whose reception capacities would be limited and thus avoid memory overflows.
The web interface also includes four configurable pages of sensor repeaters that allow real-time viewing of data using a web browser on a mobile device. Hence, for example, you can turn your smartphone into an instrument repeater. It also displays the flow of NMEA scrolling sentences.
