Presentation
TheiAISTX from Digital Yacht is an AIS transponder designed for pleasure craft (Class B) to monitor maritime traffic and help prevent collisions. Equipped with an integrated GPS, it transmits the vessel's position and data, while receiving data from the AIS transmitters of surrounding vessels.
Equipped with wifi, it can easily be connected to a smartphone, tablet or computer to display data via a compatible application such as Navionics, Weather4D, SailGrib, iNavX, iSailor, OpenCPN, TimeZero (PC), etc
AIS functions
The iAISTX uses HF-AIS technology to guarantee that all AIS transmissions are decoded without error, ensuring that the user sees all possible AIS targets and data, even in high-traffic areas. The two-channel receiver handles all types of AIS targets on reception: class B, class A, AtoN, MOB, beacons, shore bases, etc.
Since AIS operates on VHF frequencies, the device must be connected either to a dedicated antenna (not supplied), or to your VHF antenna using an antenna splitter (not supplied).
Note: for a dedicated antenna, Digital Yacht recommends model GV30, which serves as both an AIS and GPS antenna.
GPS functions
For position transmission, the device is equipped with a built-in GPS receiver, and a passive GPS antenna with 10 m cable is supplied for installation on the outside of the boat. However, on polyester boats, it is often possible to leave this passive antenna inside the boat in the same location as the transponder.
NMEA* GPS position data is also transmitted over Wi-Fi at the same time as AIS data received from surrounding vessels, enabling it to be used in navigation applications on tablets without a GPS receiver (especially when using an iPad Wi-Fi).
* Please note: this product is not an NMEA router and therefore does not relay information from other sensors on the boat via wifi. This requires the iAISTX Plus.
Easy setup via web interface
Like all transponders, the iAISTX requires an initial set-up to operate in transmit mode. This is facilitated by the device'sbuilt-in web interface, accessible with any device equipped with an Internet browser, which enables you to enter the mandatory data: name and dimensions of the vessel, MMSI number, etc. A detailed user manual accompanies this configuration procedure.
This web interface also makes it easy to set up the wifi network (change name and password, connect to an existing network) and temporarily switch off the AIS transmission ( silent mode).
