General presentation

This multiplexer box aggregates information provided by onboard instruments (GPS, depth sounder, wind vane-anemometer, loch-speedo) and AIS, and sends it to various onboard screens (PCs, tablets, smartphones). It works with NMEA 0183 and NMEA2000 instrumentation. It is also Seatalk compatible.

The Miniplex-3E-N2K is the Ethernet version of the Miniplex-3Wi. It shares most of its features, but replaces wifi with a wired link (Ethernet).

The advantage of this version is that it can be connected to a network router. Network routers are increasingly present on board, either as computer network nodes on large units, or more commonly as Internet access points, such as the Nexux from Digital Yacht, or Starlink.

Once the Miniplex-3E-N2K is connected to the router, NMEA data flows freely over the network. Each connected device can access it in the same way as other data. So, for example, you can access the Internet with your tablet and simultaneously consult NMEA data while connected to the same wifi network (i.e. that of the router). You no longer have to change connections between anchoring and navigation, which is particularly practical when you have a number of devices on board (PC, tablet, smartphone).

NMEA data management

The Miniplex-3E-N2K is bidirectional, i.e. it gathers and sends information from instruments to receivers (tablet, PC, plotter), but it can also receive commands, for example to take control of the autopilot (see below)

It incorporates :

  • 4 configurableNMEA 0183 input ports from 4800 to 57600 baud, of which N°1 can be configured as SeaTalk1
  • aNMEA2000 input/output port (Micro-C screw connector) for direct connection to NMEA2000 networks (Garmin type), or via an adapter cable for certain proprietary protocols (SeatalkNG, Simnet, etc.).
  • An Ethernet input/output (for connection to a router, which in turn will be connected to a smartphone or tablet, or a PC/Mac)
  • 2 NMEA Out (for connection to a car driver, plotter, VHF DSC, etc.)

All incoming signals are filtered and converted if necessary, and retransmitted on all outputs.

Driver support

The Miniplex-3E-N2K features an Override mode that can be activated to take control of the driver via the router, and therefore via a tablet or PC.

For example, with a tablet equipped with a compatible navigation application (Weather4D, iNavX, Sailgrib WR...):

  • When the tablet is switched on and a route is active on the application, information from the other instruments is directed exclusively to the tablet, and not to Out1. In this way, it is the tablet that feeds the data seen by the pilot(override mode).
  • When the tablet is switched off, the system automatically switches back to normal mode after 10s, i.e. wind and magnetic heading data are supplied directly to the pilot via Out1.

Features

  • 1 NMEA2000 input/output port (standard male Micro-C connector)
  • 4 NMEA 0183 input ports (one of which can be set as SeaTalk)
  • Outputs: Ethernet 10/100 BaseT + two NMEA Out ports
  • 12V DC power supply (range: 8-35V)
  • Power consumption: 100mA (150 mA max)
  • Dimensions: 138 x 62 x 30 mm

Note for NMEA2000 connection:

  • With a SeaTalkNG network: a Raymarine converter cable ref. A06045 or A06075 is required.
  • With a SimNet network: a Navico converter cable ref. 24006199 is required.
