The Miniplex-3E-N2K is the Ethernet version of famous Miniplex-3wi-N2K NMEA multiplexer, combining data from up to four navigation instruments into two NMEA outputs and a RS232 interface + NMEA2000. It also supports AIS and other high speed NMEA devices up to 57600 Baud.
It can aggregate the information provided by instruments on board (like GPS, magnetic compass, depth sounder, speed and direction anemometer, log-speedo) or AIS (surrounding marine traffic) to send them to an Ethernet router. If the router has wifi capability, data will also be shared with smartphones and tablets in various navigation apps like Weather 4D routing and navigation, iNavX, iSailor etc.
It is compatible with all standard NMEA 0183 or 2000 data, + SeaTalk and Seatalk NG.
It includes a NMEA2000 Micro-C input/output connector for NMEA2000 traffic going in and out + four configurable input ports for NMEA0183 in 4800 to 57600 baud. No. 1 port can be set in Raymarine's SeaTalk.
On output side, the multiplexed signal is available either through :
The Miniplex-3E-N2K is bidirectional, ie it sends information to the network, but can also receive commands from a device on the network capable of sending such commands (typically a PC or a tablet with a navigation software) as in this diagram:
When connected to an iPad (through a wifi router), the Miniplex-3E-N2K can be configured to operate the pilot alternately with or without the iPad.
When the iPad is active and a road is set through a navigation app, information from other instruments are directed exclusively to the iPad, and not to Out1. So this is the iPad that feeds the data into the autopilot (override mode).
When the iPad is off, the system switches automatically after 10s to normal mode, ie the magnetic heading and wind data are provided directly to the autopilot via Out1.
